Mormon Trailhead at South Mountain in Phoenix is for sure one of the great hikes you have to do. This trail is right in your backyard and may have not even heard of this beautiful trail.
How many miles is Morning Trail in Phoenix?
Mormon Trailhead offers you a 1.36-mile hike up all the way to the top and 1.3 miles back down which offers a great 2.72-mile hike. The time you spend on Mormon Trail usually depends on how many pictures you want to snap with the breathtaking views. It should take you no longer than 2-4 hours to get up and down the trail depending on your physical condition. Mormon Trails start elevation is 1,276ft and you will be at 1,959ft when you arrive at the top. Mormon Trail is an incline hike and you will receive a great work out if you push yourself.
Is There Parking at Mormon Trailhead in Phoenix?
There is a parking lot at Mormon Trail right off 24th street & Valley View Drive to the left or East. Had South on 24th street off Baseline Rd. Keep heading South till the road ends, make a left (East) and you will see the parking lot on the right side. Now, if you plan to come hike Mormon Trail on the weekends be prepared to park on the side of the road. Mormon Trailhead is a very popular trail in Phoenix Arizona on the weekends.
Where to eat before or after Hiking Mormon Trail?
Starbucks at 24st and Baseline. You can grab your coffee before you start your hike. Maybe I will see you before your Mormon Trail hike as well. Hint: use the restroom here before you head over to hike Mormon Trail. No restrooms on the trail.
"The Farm at South Mountain-Morning Glory Cafe." One place we love to go after a great hike. This outside restaurant has awesome food, service and beautiful outside sitting for the entire family. Sundays, are packed! One hour wait time or more on Sundays so be prepared but it is worth the wait though. No TV's, no sports but a great place for everyone!
Gallaghers off Baseline and 32nd Street. They also serve breakfast and many people go to watch football on the weekends after hiking Mormon Trail. Many TV's, bloody marys, beer, coffee, water for the sports fanatic.
Here are some essentials to hike Mormon Trial in Phoenix, Arizona. Now, these are items I bring as I have hiked this trail many times:
No restroom! Use the bathroom before you head up!Nearest bathroom is the Starbucks on the corner of 24st & Baseline.
Hiking shoes or shoes with some traction. I consider this a must for me always. (loose rocks)
Trekking poles or hiking staffs. I have seen older people used these as well BUT not needed.
Water pack is an always for me at Mormon Trail and any trail.
Snacks: oranges, banana, nuts or a protein bar is what I carry to sit at the very top to relax and enjoy the views.
Cell phone, ear pods/phones is a must for music and photos.
DSLR Camera- if you can carry it, or pack it in for awesome Phoenix city pictures. Ask other Mormon Trail hikers to take photos of you. You made it this far, don't miss that shot!
